The Konjunktiv II is the German mood for unreal, hypothetical and polite statements — English “would,” “could,” “if I were.” Most verbs use würde + infinitive; a handful of very common verbs have their own forms: wäre, hätte, könnte.
Wenn ich Zeit hätte, würde ich dich besuchen. — If I had time, I would visit you.

For most verbs, just use würde in position 2 and the infinitive at the end:

Some strong verbs also have their own forms that you’ll hear often: käme (kommen), ginge (gehen), wüsste (wissen), gäbe (es gibt), bräuchte (brauchen).
